SAND IN TUSCANY, the book, chronicles the unprecedented military success of the 88th Infantry Division and 313th Combat Engineers in the Italian campaign during World War II. Lorretta Segars wrote an excellent book by the same name about this vital time period. This exciting film shares the personal story of the Camp family from Northern Alabama and the Ferretti family from Tuscany, Italy, and the romance that survived the trials and tragedies of war. Veritas Mission Films completed nearly all of the filming for this project, but we need patriotic financial partners to complete production and distribution.
Heralded as one of the first combat fighting divisions from an all recruited "draftee" division, the "Blue Devils" quickly earned a reputation for their resolve and toughness. They endured rigorous training in the snow-capped mountains of Africa that prepared them for one battle after another against the Axis forces. These men became the heroes of the Italian Civil War. Some of the last remaining survivors of World War II, Lorretta's father, Fred Camp, along with decorated veterans Tom Story and Sam Studstill, recount the harrowing details of their time in service.
The Italian theater has been almost completely forgotten, but it played a vital role in the overthrow of the Axis, including the capture of evil dictator Mussolini. The film team traveled to Italy to explore from Anzio Beach, up to Rome, Florence and on to Venice, capturing how the Allies beat back some of Hitler's top generals.
The non-profit Veritas Mission Films is working with the Segars family to accept donations for this historic epic.
